Main requirements of the student visa
In order to obtain this visa, you will have to meet:
- Proof of sufficient economic funds: 100% of the IPREM (€7,200) + 75% of the IPREM extra for an additional relative, and 50% more for subsequent ones
- Proof of admission from the center where you will study – the center MUST be accredited by the Spanish Government

Frequently asked questions about the Spanish student visa
How can one know schools that are accredited by the Spanish government when applying for admission?
- For Universities, they would be listed on the RUCT website
- For centers for professional education, they must be listed in Buscar Centros Cocentes No Universitarios
- For language schools, they should be certified by Instituto Cervantes
Can I change my student visa into a work permit or digital nomad visa anytime, or is there a period for doing so?
- For a work permit, you must:
- Complete your studies, providing a certificate of completion as proof.
- Apply betweenthe last 60 days of the end of your student visa and the first 90 days once it expires.
- For a Digital Nomad Visa, you can apply at any time, provided that you have a legal status in Spain for applying from within the country.
What type of Spanish language programs are approved for student visas? (University enrollment only, private in-person classes, DELE exam prep courses)
The requirements for Spanish Language programs are that the studies are a minimum of 20 hours/week and must be recognized by the Instituto Cervantes.
Under a student visa, are students permitted to visit other countries within the EU and outside the EU? Or must students remain in Spain?
The student visa allows you to enter the Schengen zone in general but you’re only allowed to enter other EU countries for a maximum of 90 days.
